Prospect ressource Assessment

From classical regional modelling to appraisal

The use of basin modeling is not restricted to regional basin analysis in preliminary exploration phases. It may be extended to field development and appraisal stages, to help reducing further the risk on the development plan and on the overall economics of the project by contributing decisively to an unbiased estimation of the value of the opportunity.

TemisFlow meets this challenge first by allowing a clear-cut modeling of reservoir structures through the handling of high-resolution meshes. Coupling this capability to the non-compromise Darcy-based flow modelling for migration routes delineation leads to a precise estimation of accumulated hydrocarbon volumes at appraisal scale. Second, by predicting as accurately the petroleum fluids compositional heterogeneities, at bottom or surface conditions, through a tunable n-components scheme featuring full PVT, density and viscosity description. This sound compositional modeling captures in details the changes in hydrocarbon composition occurring all along the charging processes, including secondary cracking. Simulation times are kept affordable despite the level of detail achieved by leveraging High Performance Computing environments.

In this manner, TemisFlow contributes decisively to the economic evaluation of an opportunity and to the development plan setup.

Pore Pressure prediction

Obtaining a solid prediction of pore pressure distribution prior to drilling

The capability to predict pore pressure in a proposed well location is decisive for reducing risks associated to drilling and for optimizing wellbore design. By computing compaction evolution through geological times, by accounting for mechanical effects and secondary petrophysical alterations such as cementation and diagenesis, and by simulating pressure decay based on Darcy flow, TemisFlow meets the challenge of reconstructing paleo-pressure regimes and mapping pore-pressure distributions at present day.

Hydraulic fracturing is included for even more accurate modeling. P-seismic wave velocity calculation based on Gardner law is featured.

TemisFlow outputs related to pore-pressure simulation can be successfully integrated to Pre-Stack Depth Migration workflows for enhancing velocity models and ultimately improving 3D tomography.
